Today Canada's Under 23 Team advanced in two events at the 2012 World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Trakai, Lithuania.
This morning, the women's four won its heat, advancing directly to the final. This crew is Christine Roper (Ontario), Susanne Grainger (Ontario), Cheryl Copson (Ontario), and Antje Von Seydlitz-Kurzbach (BC).
"We went really well - it felt strong as we executed our race plan," said Christine Roper, a Canadian who is also from Jamaica. "We are definitely excited for the next race."
Canada's time was 6:43.93, followed by Australia in 6:45.74, New Zealand in 6:51.46, and Denmark in 7:14.75. Not fazed by a false start and restart, Canada had the fastest qualifying time of all of the boats.
The men's four advanced to the semi-finals after finishing third in today's heat.
This boat is Keegan Drummond (New Brunswick), Ryan Rosts (Ontario), Tim Schrijver (Ontario), and David Lariviere (Ontario)
Australia had the time of 6:06.08, followed by the Czechs in 6:08.72, Canada in 6:11.57 and Norway in 6:13.02.
Conditions were reported as good with temperatures in the low 20s and a very slight head wind on almost flat water.
Other Canadian crews yet to race are the lightweight men's four, lightweight women's double, women's single, lightweight women's single, and lightweight men's double. The competition continues through to Sunday.
